The world first sport oriented watch, the Ironman® Triathlon was debut in 1986 and this Bimmer edition is limited to Japan.
The original Ironman 8-Lap watch was sold more than 400,000 units in the first year, because of its philosophy and engineering background. Built for Triathlon (Swim, Bike and Run), the Ironman watch became an icon and even the President of the United States of America worn.
John T. Houlihan, a former car designer at General Motors and his team designed the original Ironman watch in cooperation with Alberto Salazar (4 time major marathon champion, ex Nike Oregon Project Coarch), Mary Decker Slaney (U.S. Track & Field Olympian) and various talents.
Distinctive the "lunette" shape or so-called D-shape with two top-mounted buttons right below that circle was about the future back in 1986. The styling was just exactly right, and Ironman became the “brand”, not Timex.
The pewter or metallic gray like color case of 1986's original case was actually painted by Dupont's automobile paint which was inspired by a BMW parked at TIMEX's office in Cupertino (no longer exist, now where the Apple's HQ is). In this edition, we carefully selected the colorway by that original story and matched with a negative display which never used for the original Ironman 8-Lap series before.
